Congratulations to the NCHS Class of 2012's two National Merit Scholarship Program's* Semifinalists and 11 Commended students. Semifinalists are Meagan Coffer and Jonathan Lala. These students represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors (1.5 million) who entered the National Merit program by taking the PSAT qualifying test, and were the highest scoring entrants in the state. These seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, that will be offered next spring.
Those named as Commended -- scoring in the top 5% nationally on the PSAT-- are Mackenzie Boydston, Carolyn Conley, Ian DeVlaming, Ryan Hart, Jennifer Heidt, Stephanie Peterson, Garrett Reilly, Natalie Ross, Shelby Smith, David Wugofsky and Rebekah Yarmchuck.
The 13 recipients are pictured above with NCHS Principal Cathy Buckingham after the announcement.
